This is a DIGITAL sewing pattern for a Regency dress with Tulip Sleeves.

The dress in this sewing pattern has no extant garment after which it was designed. It shows more of a historically inspired Empire dress and can be located at the end of the Regency era. The first tulip or petal sleeves can be seen on dresses from the 1850s.

The dress will perfectly complement pattern #0323, which features a spencer with puffed oversleeves.

The bodice is flatlined with lightweight cotton or linen fabric, as well as the sleeves. Both neckline and sleeves feature contrasting piping. The bodice closes with hooks and eyes in the center back, instead, a hidden zipper can be inserted if wanted.
The skirt is directly attached to the bodice and folded into knife pleats at the back, the front panel is sewn on with just some ease.
The skirt should end about 2” off the floor in the front and be a bit longer in the back, touching the floor slightly but not being a train. A matching belt can be worn with the dress.
I recommend wearing the dress with historically accurate underwear and stays. Especially the front bodice is quite short and the underbust line lies significantly above the modern when wearing just a bra.

Beautifully drafted; instructions could be a bit clearer

Panic sewed this in a couple of days for a ball and was very happy with the result. The pattern is drafted very well, and fits true to size (US20). I made no adjustments other than a slightly deeper hem as I’m 5’4. You do need period undergarments for the bust to fit properly, as stated in the pattern.

If you’ve sewn garments before then I’d recommend this pattern. For a complete novice, I wouldn’t recommend this as a first project as the English instructions are somewhat unclear. Adhesive spray baste saved a ton of time for me on this project!

A couple of small errors and annoyances: The pdf for the larger size range is mis-labeled with the smaller size range numbers.

It’s frustrating that the pdf doesn’t have size layers, especially with the double dart on the bust - I ended up just fudging them as I couldn’t tell what dart was for which size.

I wish that this pattern also came as a projector pdf file. It’s set up fine if you’re printing it on paper and can tape, but I had to take it into illustrator and reformat it to make it work for projector as the skirt is split across pages in a way that doesn’t make sense for the Pattern Projector tiling.
